Testimonal – Nicole Coady, Special Education, WA, May 2020
Our school chose Team Teach to give us guidelines on how to interact positively with students when they were experiencing a crisis or escalating behaviours. The school loved the philosophy of Team Teach as 95% is non-physical.
Team Teach gave the school structure, a universal language, strategies and how/when to use physical intervention to keep the child safe or for the safety of others, linking with up to date policies/legislation and having the best interest of the student at heart.
The quality of the course is excellent incorporating other programs which fit (eg: Restorative Practice, Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, Poverty etc).
Particular highlights were:
- the reduction in the use of physical intervention (at Specialist Schools)
- enabling positive relationships during times of crisis
- what to do if physical intervention is needed. There are clear guidelines, guides, escorts and restraint that is proportionate to what is going on. The main focus is still the students best interest, ensuring dignity, least amount of time necessary and a restorative process
- safety of training and course content
- knowledge of the instructors
I would recommend this course to others as it will assist them during crisis, help them to recognise escalating behaviours, triggers, train them on how to interact, scripts, universal language, safety, legislation and responsibilities. I love that the WA Education Department has recognised and approved Team Teach as their preferred supplier of behaviour support training.
