Case Study – Life Without Barriers, QLD, September 2020
Life without Barriers was looking to source some specialised training in behaviour support, specifically around challenging behaviours. We were specifically looking for advanced strategies around Positive Behaviour Supports (PBS) and in depth education around some key aspects of why PBS are needed and the legislation that governs Restrictive Practice. On discussion with other business partners, the reputation of Team Teach was highlighted as preferred provider.
The course was extremely impressive. The Presenter was well versed in his field and his knowledge around Positive Behaviour strategies, more broadly risk reduction, complex communication and the stages of a crisis model. This enabled the session to run smoothly and any question asked were answered with accuracy.
Three key benefits we experienced from completing this course were:
- Improved understanding around Stages of Crisis.
- Strong foundation around the 4 key legal principles that govern any intervention with a client.
- The concepts of personal space and boundaries and their guiding principles to how we avoid intentional or unintentional contact with a client.
We would highly recommend this course to other Disability Service providers. The principles taught in the session are applicable to any Disability Provider regardless if their client has restrictive practice or not. The fundamentals of the course provide each frontline worker with a good framework in which to base the supports they provide on a daily basis. The design of the course meant it was interactive and engaging and the interaction sections had some good teaching points. The content was clear, relevant and the Presenters knowledge was outstanding. All my staff reported post session it was one of the best courses they have attended.
